Today people are living longer than in past, we all want to age as gracefully as possible. We want young looking skin and a fit, trim body. We don’t want wrinkles, flab or prematurely graying hair. The gray can be fixed with a little 5-minute touch up hair product, but the rest is dependent on how well you take care of yourself. The older you get, the better you understand that you are, indeed, what you eat. If you eat poorly, it will eventually, show up in your appearance. Whether you’re young or old, now is a good time to launch your anti aging diet program.
First, consider the amount of food you eat. Many credible studies have shown, time and time again, that people who eat less food, live longer and look better. Most of us eat far more, in sheer volume, than is necessary to good health. In addition, the types of food we eat on a regular basis are often way off base in terms of nutrition. Junk food, anyone? Eating slowly and chewing your food thoroughly aids in letting you know when you’ve eaten enough, as well as helping to maintain good digestive health over a lifetime. So, this is the starting point and suggested strategy for any good anti aging diet.
Antioxidants are super nutrients that protect your cells from damage. These little miracle workers are also absolutely great for your skin. As a rule of thumb, red, yellow and orange colored fruits and vegetables are good sources of antioxidant nutrients, so load up on these when planning your anti aging diet menus.
Try to reduce your intake of fatty and friend foods. The occasional big juicy steak or package of fries isn’t going to kill you, but can’t be a regular part of a successful anti aging diet plan. Besides the weight issue, these fats can be harmful to your heart and lead to cholesterol problems.
Lean meats are the way to go. You may be surprised to know that just 20 grams of protein each day is all you need for good health. However, teens and athletic types may require more. Chicken, fish and lean pork loin are good choices for your anti-aging diet plan. While a bit more expensive, the ‘natural’ meats, where the animals have not been treated with antibiotics and are fed only grains, grown without pesticides are preferable in the anti aging diet. Those undesirable chemicals and toxins don’t end up inside your body. The meat does taste better and you may find a smaller portion fills you up.
Drinking lots of water is very important. The easiest way to make sure this happens is to have a designated drinking glass, with you sipping throughout the day. This keeps your kidneys in good shape and flushes out the toxins we ingest every day.
With the exception of chocolate (my weakness), there’s very few good to be said about sugar. Just about everyone eats much too much of this substance, even unknowingly. For example, read the label of any prepared or processed food. From soup to frozen entrees, sugar is added, along with salt, the only reason being to ‘enhance’ the flavor. Over a lifetime, excessive amounts of sugar and salt can produce a variety of ailments.
In concert with your anti aging diet program, begin a regular, consistent program of exercise. You can start by walking just a half hour each day.
Following these guidelines will produce great results you’ll see and feel in the space of a few short months!
